A Dhaka court has placed two youths on a five-day remand each in connection with the brutal killing of a businessman in front of Gate-3 of Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, commonly known as Mitford Hospital.

The accused are Mahmudul Hasan Mohin, 41, and Tarek Rahman Robin, 22.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner Talebur Rahman confirmed the remand order.

Police arrested the duo with weapons shortly after the killing. Later, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained two more suspects in the same case.

On Wednesday afternoon, July 9, 39-year-old local businessman Lal Chand, also known as Sohag, was fatally attacked by a group of assailants on the footpath near the hospital gate. Officers from Kotwali police station rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.

An inquest was conducted, and the body was sent to the morgue for autopsy.

The victim’s elder sister later filed a murder case at Kotwali police station.

Police recovered CCTV footage from the area and launched multiple raids across Dhaka, eventually arresting Mohin and Robin. A foreign pistol was seized from Robin at the time of arrest.

Preliminary findings point to a business dispute and prior enmity as the likely motives behind the murder. Law enforcement is continuing efforts to track down other suspects and fully uncover the circumstances of the crime.

Legal proceedings are currently in progress.
