National Citizens Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has said that the party is pursuing a political path inspired by the ideals of martyr Abrar Fahad—pro-Bangladesh, anti-aggression, and against Delhi’s hegemony.

Speaking at the grave of Abrar Fahad in Kushtia on the eighth day of the NCP’s month-long Desh Garte July Padayatra (July March for Building Bangladesh), Nahid said, “Abrar Fahad showed us the way to stand for Bangladesh, to speak against Indian interference, and to resist Delhi-centric dominance. The mass uprising followed that spirit, and the NCP is now carrying forward that legacy.”

He alleged that Abrar was brutally tortured and killed by the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), whom he described as a “terrorist outfit loyal to Indian interests,” for expressing patriotic views critical of Indian aggression.

“Abrar’s only crime was speaking for the people and standing against foreign domination,” said Nahid. He added that the anti-Delhi hegemony movement launched in 2019 following Abrar’s death marked a key moment in the fight against fascism in Bangladesh.

Nahid reiterated NCP’s commitment to building a politics rooted in national dignity and independence, honoring those who have faced enforced disappearances, torture, and killings over the past 16 years.

“We want to establish a sovereign, pro-people Bangladesh that reflects the spirit of all martyrs who have resisted fascist forces,” he stated.

The NCP began its nationwide July March on July 1, demanding justice, constitutional reform, and the formation of a new constitution. The march will continue until July 30, covering districts across the country.

Today’s march brought the NCP to Kushtia, where the party started the day’s program by paying tribute at Abrar Fahad’s grave.

Abrar Fahad, a promising student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), was killed on October 6, 2019. He was beaten to death by members of the Chhatra League over a Facebook post criticizing what he called an unequal agreement between Bangladesh and India and Indian water aggression. His murder sparked national outrage and widespread protests.
