BRUR forms high-level committee to probe recruitment fraud

BRUR Correspondent :

A high-level committee has been formed to investigate allegations of irregularities and fraud in the recruitment of Tabiur Rahman Pradhan, associate professor and department head of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Begum Rokeya University (BRUR) in Rangpur.
In view of the High Court rule and the ACC letter, a three-member high-level investigation committee was formed at the 113th syndicate meeting of the university on Saturday (June 28) with Professor Dr. ABM Shahidul Islam, Department of Marketing, Dhaka University, as the convener. The matter was confirmed by the university’s Registrar Dr. Harun Or Rashid on Sunday (June 29).
The other members of the committee are Shamsul Alam Sarkar, Department of Applied Mathematics, Rajshahi University (Retd) and the university’s Registrar Dr. Md. Harun Or Rashid.
It is learned that Tabiur Rahman, an associate professor of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Begum Rokeya University, was appointed as a lecturer in 2012 by ‘forging’ the recommendation letter from the Recruitment Selection Board and has been working for 13 years. It is alleged that the university is working ‘illegally’ by showing the dominance of the Awami League’s Teachers Forum Yellow Party. The teacher strongly opposed the teachers’ demands for the resignation of the Hasina government at the University Teachers’ Association meeting on August 3 after the latest killing of Abu Sayeed.
According to sources, Tabiur Rahman has been the general secretary of the Teachers’ Association several times as an Awami League supporter. Some pictures of the teacher campaigning with a boat marker in favor of Awami League nominated candidates Nuruzzaman Ahmed and Motahar Hossain in Lalmonirhat-1 (Hatibandha-Patgram) and Lalmonirhat-2 (Kaliganj-Aditmari) constituencies have gone viral on social media. As a pro-Awami teacher, Tabiur has led the teachers’ association several times and has been accused of using political influence to retain his job.
