BNP senior leader Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said the party will initiate seat-sharing discussions with its political allies once the election schedule is officially announced.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Gono Odhikar Parishad at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office, Khosru stated, “We’re not at the seat-sharing stage yet. That will start once the election process begins.”
Khosru, a BNP Standing Committee member, noted that the meeting with Gono Odhikar Parishad also reviewed outcomes of a recent discussion in London between Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. Both sides reportedly welcomed the tentative February 2026 election timeline.
He added that the parties are preparing to move forward with joint efforts, especially around implementing BNP’s proposed 31-point reform agenda. “As we were united in the movement, we’ll move forward unitedly in the election, government formation, and in reform implementation,” he said.
On the ongoing National Consensus Commission meetings, Khosru said reforms will be based on issues where political consensus exists. “Complete consensus isn’t required. Every party has different priorities—what matters is agreement on key areas.”
Khosru also addressed BNP’s stance on the legal battle involving Ishraque Hossain, who was recently declared the winner of the Dhaka South City Corporation mayoral election by court. “The judiciary’s decision is clear, and the Election Commission has endorsed it. Now it’s the government’s responsibility to allow Ishraque to take office,” he said.
