28 Bangladeshis leave for home from Iran

Diplomatic Correspondent :

A total of 28 Bangladeshi nationals, primarily women, children, and patients seeking medical treatment, have begun their journey back home from Iran as part of the first phase of an official repatriation initiative.

The group departed Tehran at 2:20pm local time on Wednesday by road, heading toward Pakistan’s Taftan border in Balochistan, according to an official from the Bangladesh Embassy in Tehran.

From there, they will travel to Karachi, fly to Dubai, and then board their final flight to Dhaka.
The repatriation plan was launched in response to concerns surrounding the recent Iran-Israel conflict, which initially prompted a surge in demand from Bangladeshi nationals to return home.
However, with the conflict showing signs of de-escalation, officials say that interest has decreased in recent days.

“Many Bangladeshis registered earlier due to uncertainty and fear, but now, as the situation appears to be stabilising, several are opting to stay,” said an embassy source.

So far, 250 Bangladeshis have officially registered for repatriation, and the embassy plans to facilitate their return in multiple phases. According to official estimates, about 2,000 Bangladeshis currently reside in Iran, with 400 living in Tehran. A total of 672 Bangladeshis are registered with the embassy, including 66 students.

In light of the ongoing situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka has renewed its call for interested Bangladeshi nationals in Iran to contact the embassy in Tehran and register as soon as possible for repatriation assistance.

The ministry has also provided hotline numbers (including WhatsApp) for inquiries and support: Bangladesh Embassy, Tehran (Hotlines): +98 9908577368, +98 9122065745; Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka (Hotline): +880 1712012847
As the first group begins its long journey home, the embassy is coordinating closely with authorities in Pakistan and the UAE to ensure a safe and smooth passage for all returnees.
