ACC probes 100pc voter turnout centres

Staff Reporter :

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent a letter to the Election Commission (EC), requesting information about officials involved in polling centres that reported 100 percent voter turnout during the 2018 national election.

ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain confirmed the development while speaking to reporters at the ACC headquarters in Dhaka on Monday. He said the commission is investigating individuals allegedly involved in vote rigging and abuse of power during the 2014, 2018, and 2024 national elections. Akhtar noted that the ACC launched the inquiry in January this year and formed a five-member investigation committee. As part of the ongoing probe, the committee sent the letter to the EC.

In addition, the ACC has conducted drives at 13 election offices across the country following complaints of harassment related to the issuance, correction, and delivery of national identity (NID) cards.

ACC Assistant Director Md Tanjir Islam shared this information at a press briefing held at the commission’s headquarters.

The drives were conducted by ACC’s 13 District Integrated Offices in response to allegations of misconduct by staff at various election offices.

The districts where the drives were carried out include Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Barisal, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Rangpur, Thakurgaon, Kurigram, Dinajpur, Mymensingh, and Jamalpur.
