2145cr budget announced by CCC Mayor

CHATTOGRAM: Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation Dr Shahadat Hossain announces a proposed budget of Tk 2,145 crore 42 lakh for the 2025-26 fiscal year at the TIC auditorium on Monday.

Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has announced a proposed budget of Tk 2,145 crore 42 lakh for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
He announced the CCC budget at the TIC auditorium on Monday.
The mayor presented a revised budget of Tk 1,221 crore 96 lakh for the 2024-25 fiscal year. He said, “Although I won the CCC election in 2021, I was defeated by the fascist government’s cunning tactics.” After the fall of the illegal Awami fascist government and its allies in the mass uprising of students and the public on on August 5, I was appointed mayor by a court order.
He said, “I took charge with a debt of Tk 600 crore. I paid Tk 150 crore in 8 months. I will bring the debt to zero. I love to face challenges.”The Mayor said that for the first time, it has been possible to collect 140 crore taka from the Chittagong Port Authority as municipal tax. 65 crore 76 lakh taka has already been paid in the development assistance allocation sector and about 60 crore taka has been paid for the World Bank’s Covid-19 assistance.
34 crore 46 lakh taka has been paid for income tax, 38 crore 16 lakh taka for VAT and 19 crore 18 lakh and 27 crore 86 lakh taka have been paid for the gratuity and provident fund of officials and employees respectively. Gratuity of 50 thousand taka per person is being provided to 400 people every month. He said that with the help of JICA, the automation process has started through a modern budget and accounting system.
Hopefully, the entire accounting department will come under automation by the next fiscal year.Emphasizing on the implementation of the income-increasing projects of the Chattogram Port Authority, the Mayor said that if appropriate initiatives are implemented, the revenue income will increase manifold and the Chattogram Port Authority will become financially self-sufficient. Currently, there are 214,673 holdings and 126,834 trade licenses in the CCC area. Tax and license management has been brought online and public hearings are being conducted through 8 review boards. Regarding modernization in cleaning activities, the mayor said that 4.1 million cubic feet of soil and garbage have been removed from 19 canals. 148 projects have been implemented to clean drainage, and there are plans to implement 200 more projects during the monsoon. Modern methods and American technology larvicide have been used to kill mosquitoes. As part of the initiative taken to resolve waterlogging, the Navy is being given the responsibility of
cleaning the Agrabad Box Culvert at a cost of Tk 2.2 crore. He said, “Even in the heavy rains during the current season, important areas including GEC, Bahaddarhat, Chawkbazar did not get submerged.” The mayor also said that 10 acres of land have been purchased in Dakshin Pahartali for the construction of a modern waste treatment plant and the construction work of a bus-truck terminal in Kulgaon area is also progressing. Acting Chief Accounting Officer Humayun Kabir presented the budget statement at the budget session chaired by Chattogram City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam. City Corporation Secretary Mohammad Ashraful Amin was present.
