Jobbar-er Boli Khela 2015

The historic Jobbar-er Boli Khela, one of the most traditional events of Chittagong and the whole country at large, was held on April 25 at the Laldighi Maidan.
Private mobile operator company, Banglalink sponsored the event for the seventh consecutive year and it was a part of a larger Baishakhi Mela, which was held from April 24 to 26.
Boli Khela is a traditional wrestling introduced in the early 20th century by Abdul Jabbar Saudagar to cultivate a sport to unite the youth to fight against British colonial rule.
Boli Khela can be played all throughout the year but is most commonly played in the months of March and April, or Bangla months Chaitra and Baishakh.
The 106th historic festival was held in the port city Chittagong and was organised by Abdul Jobbar Smriti Kusti Protijogita O Baishakhi Mela Committee attracting thousands of supporters on its first day.
This century-old sport, Boli Khela has over fifty participants that take part in the game.
There were four wrestlers playing in the semi-finals and winners of semi-final moved up to the final.
And the winner of the final was the champion. The game continued until one victor was eventually left to be declared this year’s champion.
More than 25 to 30 thousand spectators from all segments of society gathered to enjoy this traditional and prestigious wrestling tournament.
The programme was inaugurated and the winners received prizes from the chief guest Eng Mosharof Hossain MP, Housing and Public Works Minister.
Also present at the ceremony as the distinguished special guests were Md Abdul Jalil Mondol, BPM, Police Commissioner, Chittagong Metropolitan Police, Shawkat Anwar Badol, General Secretary, Abdul Jobbar Smriti Kusti Protijogita O Baishakhi Mela Committee, Soumen Mitra, Regional Director, Chittagong, Banglalink and Sharfuddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Head of PR & Communication of Banglalink.
Didar Boli from Cox’s Bazar is crowned again as the champion and Ali Boli from Brahmanbaria is the runners-up this year.
Soumen Mitra, Regional Director, Chittagong, Banglalink in his speech said, “Jobbar-er Boli Khela is one of numerous events that prove Banglalink’s continuous efforts to be in line with local culture and heritage. This is going to be Seventh year Banglalink has sponsored this event. Banglalink’s association with this event for the past six years has added more hype and mileage to this event. Today Boli Khela is one of the oldest traditions especially in the Chittagong region.”
