Pakistan has officially designated Imran Haider as its next high commissioner to Bangladesh, confirming a diplomatic reshuffle that ends speculation over the return of the current envoy, Syed Ahmed Maroof. “The Pakistan Government has appointed Imran Haider the new high commissioner to Bangladesh,” a senior official from the Pakistani High Commission in Dhaka told The New Nation on Wednesday.

Sources said that the official procedures are underway, and he would assume office once the formalities are completed.

Imran Haider currently serves as Pakistan’s high commissioner to Myanmar. With extensive diplomatic experience, Haider’s appointment is viewed as part of Islamabad’s broader strategy to recalibrate its foreign relations in South Asia.

Imran Haider will succeed Syed Ahmed Maroof who left Bangladesh in May on what was officially described as a two-week leave.

However, no official statement has been issued explaining the reason behind Maroof’s replacement.
