No date yet, but EC must stay ready: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Md Nasir Uddin on Sunday emphasized that the Election Commission must remain fully prepared, no matter when the next national election takes place.

Speaking to reporters after exchanging Eid greetings with EC officials at the commission’s Agargaon office in the capital, the CEC said, “There has been no discussion with the government yet regarding a February election. My focus right now is solely on ensuring our preparations are in place. Once talks with the government begin, we will gain clarity and make decisions accordingly.”

He assured that the Election Commission stands ready to move forward as soon as it receives any signal from the government.

The CEC also noted that discussions with the government will precede the finalization of the election schedule, which is expected to be announced roughly two months before the polls.

Urging his staff to remain professional, the CEC added, “I’ve instructed the officials to be politically conscious but not politically involved. In an election, we serve as neutral referees.
