Sylhet bustling with tourists during Eid holidays

Sylhet, often called the daughter of nature, has become a top destination for tourists during the extended Eid-ul-Azha holiday. From Jaflong to Ratargul, tourist spots across the district are witnessing a massive influx of visitors from various parts of the country.
Two days after Eid, the rush began in full swing. Tourists have been seen enjoying the clear waters of the Dhalai and Piain rivers, relaxing on river rocks, exploring the tea gardens, and visiting iconic sites such as Jaflong, Lalakhal, Sadapathar, Bichnakandi, Utmachara, and the Ratargul Swamp Forest.
Many have also made spiritual stops at the revered shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shahparan (RA), adding a spiritual dimension to their scenic tour.
Tour operators and hospitality businesses are optimistic that the flow of visitors will continue for another week, thanks to the favorable weather and improved flood conditions.
ATM Shoaib, former president of the Sylhet Hotel, Motel, and Guest House Owners Association, said: “Tourists started arriving from Monday. With no rain and the flood threat gone, we expect a continued influx throughout the week.”
However, not all experiences have been pleasant. On Monday, tourists were attacked by alleged smugglers near Jaflong, while on Sunday, some were forcibly removed from the Utmachara tourist site in Companiganj upazila.
In response, Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Sher Mahbub Murad assured, “The Upazila Executive Officer has been asked to investigate. This appears to be an isolated incident and should not impact the overall tourist experience.”
Despite these concerns, the scenic charm and cultural richness of Sylhet continue to captivate visitors during this holiday season.
