Bangladesh and Bhutan have reaffirmed their strong commitment to deepening bilateral relations across multiple sectors, with particular emphasis on trade and regional cooperation.
The renewed commitment was expressed during a courtesy call by the newly appointed Ambassador of Bhutan to Bangladesh, Dasho Karma Hamu Dorjee, on the Hon’ble Adviser for Foreign Affairs, Md Touhid Hossain, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday morning.
Welcoming the Ambassador to Dhaka, the Adviser congratulated her on her appointment and reiterated Bangladesh’s dedication to enhancing cooperation between the two nations. Both sides acknowledged the longstanding friendly ties and expressed a shared interest in expanding the scope of engagement.
Discussions centred on exploring new avenues for collaboration, particularly in the field of hydropower trade – a sector identified as offering significant mutual benefit.
The Adviser emphasised the importance of fully realising the potential of the existing partnership. While acknowledging the progress made thus far, he noted that substantial opportunities remain in the areas of trade, connectivity, and sustainable development.
Trade-related issues also featured prominently in the talks, with both parties underscoring the importance of convening the next round of the Commerce Secretary-Level Meeting to advance shared economic objectives.
Ambassador Dorjee expressed appreciation for Bangladesh’s continued support and goodwill towards Bhutan. She also provided an update on Bhutan’s flagship ‘Gelephu Mindfulness City’ project, highlighting its regional significance and the potential for future collaboration.
The Adviser assured the Ambassador of Bangladesh’s full cooperation during her tenure and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to working closely with Bhutan to elevate bilateral ties to new heights.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the enduring friendship and multifaceted cooperation that define Bangladesh-Bhutan relations.
