Readers’ Voice: Eid and Gaza

As Eid approaches, Muslims across the world prepare for celebration – buying animals, clothes, and gifts, anticipating a day filled with prayer, joy, and family. But in Gaza, our brothers and sisters remain trapped in a nightmare.

Their Eid is marked not by festivity, but by loss. While we dress in vibrant colours, their clothes are soaked in blood. While we embrace our loved ones, they bury theirs.

How can there be joy in Eid when their homes are rubble, their children starving, and their streets lined with graves? Israel’s ongoing assault has robbed them not only of life and shelter, but of hope.

As the world watches in silence, Gaza bleeds. Let us not forget them amid our own celebrations. As we gather with family, let us pray for those who’ve lost theirs. As we give thanks, let us raise our voices for justice.

Let this Eid not just be a time of personal happiness, but a call to action. Donate. Protest. Speak out. Eid is a celebration of unity and mercy – let us extend both to Gaza. May this Eid bring peace and freedom to those who need it most. Ameen.
