NN Online:
BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has pushed back against recent remarks by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, claiming that it is not a political party but an individual—Dr. Yunus himself—who opposes holding the national election by December.

Abbas made the statement on Friday while speaking to reporters after paying tribute at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, marking the leader’s 44th death anniversary.

Reacting to comments made by Dr. Yunus during his official visit to Japan, Abbas said, “With deep regret, I saw Muhammad Yunus criticizing the BNP while abroad. He spoke against the country and claimed that only one party wants elections.”

“But the reality is, it’s not a party—only one person seems to oppose the December timeline, and that person is Dr. Yunus himself,” Abbas added.

Earlier, during an event in Tokyo, Dr. Yunus, head of the interim government, reiterated that the upcoming national elections would be held between December and June. He stated that it is not a unanimous desire among all political parties to hold elections in December, asserting instead that “only one party” is in favor of that timeframe.
