Rabindra University is celebrating “Rabindra Janmotsav-1432” with colorful programs on the occasion of the 164th birth anniversary of world poet Rabindranath Tagore. Under the overall guidance of the Vice-Chancellor of Rabindra University, the two-day “Rabindra Janmotsav-1432” was inaugurated by offering a wreath to the portrait of Rabindranath Tagore at the temporary academic building-3 of the university at 10 am yesterday.
In a message, the Vice-Chancellor of Rabindran University Dr. S. M. Hassan Talukder said, in the eyes of Rabindranath Tagore, Bengal was like a wonderful form of creation, a story of words. This East Bengal is the source and inspiration of his immortal creations. The aesthetic feeling and language art that the nature, soil and people of this country created in his mind are today the glorious achievements of Bengali literature and culture.
Rabindranath is intertwined with the nature of this country, the daily life of people, socio-political thoughts, humanity, betrayal and literary ideals in an authentic spiritual bond. He further said that the establishment of Rabindra University, Bangladesh is to keep the creations of the world poet Rabindranath Tagore immortal in Bangladesh. He expressed the hope that his philosophy, thoughts and ideals will play an important role in building the national unity of the people of Bangladesh.
Then, a speech competition on Rabindra Sangeet and Rabindranath Tagore was organized at Academic Bhaban-1 and Academic Bhaban-3 of Rabindranath University with the participation of students from various schools, colleges and universities respectively. A youth fair was organized at the premises of Academic Bhaban-3 of Rabindra University at 11 am. The youth fair was inaugurated by Sirajganj Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nazrul Islam, after which he inspected various stalls of the fair. After the inauguration and inspection of the fair, a discussion meeting was held. It was presided over by Rabindra University Proctor (Acting) Nazrul Islam. The convener of the youth fair sub-committee and chairman of the Department of Sociology, Jannatul Mawa Moon, delivered the welcome speech. Sirajganj Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nazrul Islam was present as the chief guest and discussed. Shahzadpur Upazila Executive Officer Md. Kamruzzaman and Chairman of the Bangla Department and member-secretary of Rabindra Janmotsab 1432 organized by Rabindra University, Md. Mainul Islam also discussed.
A seminar on “Rabindranath’s Environmental Thought” was organized at 4:00 pm.
The seminar, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of Rabindra University, was attended by Professor of the Bangla Department of Dhaka University Dr. Tariq Manzoor as a discussant and the paper was presented by Assistant Professor of the Bangla Department of Rabindra University Javed Iqbal.
In the evening, a cultural program was organized by students of the Music Department of Dhaka University, students of Rabindra University and students of various schools and colleges. This concluded the first day’s program.
As part of the program, a youth fair, documentary exhibition, seminar, a gathering and closing ceremony and cultural program will be organized on the second day.
