The Bangladesh Army stands firm on the issue of national sovereignty and will not tolerate any compromise, said Brigadier General Md Nazim-ud-Daula, Director of Military Operations at the Army Headquarters, on Monday.
Speaking at a briefing held at Dhaka Cantonment, Brig Gen Nazim emphasized, “Corridor-related matters are highly sensitive. For the army, national interest is paramount. There will be no concession regarding the country’s independence, security, or sovereignty.”
On the ongoing tensions along the Myanmar border, he stated that the situation is more volatile than ever, prompting the army to maintain the highest state of alert.
Addressing reports of 30,000 uniforms being produced for the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), Nazim questioned the logic, given the Kuki population is around 12,000. “Why such a large number of uniforms? Who is behind this? The army is investigating the matter seriously,” he noted.
Regarding the alleged ‘push-ins’ of people from India, he said such actions are “neither acceptable nor desirable.” While Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is handling the situation, the army is ready to step in if directed by the government.
Earlier, Colonel Md Shafiqul Islam, Colonel Staff of the Directorate, reviewed army operations over the past 40 days. He warned of stern action against those involved in mob violence and threats to social security.
Col Islam added that the overall law and order situation has either remained steady or improved in many areas. However, he stressed that ensuring public safety requires joint efforts from all law enforcement and relevant agencies.
