Bangladesh A edge ahead on rain-hit Day 2

Bangladesh A batters batted resolutely to keep the side’s nose ahead against the visiting New Zealand A on Day 2 of the series-deciding second four-day game at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

The home side is aiming to draw the series after losing the first four-day game by 70 runs.
Three batters hit half-centuries as Bangladesh A were bowled out for 357 in their first innings. At stumps, New Zealand A reached 104-1, still trailing by 253 runs.

Resuming the Day 2 at 225-4, Bangladesh rode on Amit Hasan’s 67 to take the score past 350. Amite who has been the consistent run-getter in the domestic first class tournament, continued his form in this game as well and struck eight fours and a six in his 110-ball-knock.

As long as he was in the crease, Bangladesh looked destined to 400 plus total. However, after his dismissal as the sixth batter, Bangladesh lost the rest of the four wickets for just 39 runs.

Skipper Nurul Hasan Sohan was the other notable scorer with 40 ball-48 on Day 2. Earlier, on Day 1, opener Naim Sheikh hit 82 and Saif Hasan made 51 to help Bangladesh’s cause.
Ben Lister and Jayden Lennox took three wickets apiece for New Zealand A.

The visitors made a strong reply but Syed Khaled Ahmed struck to remove Rhys Mariu for 14.Curtis Heaphy and captain Joe Carter kept the side unscathed and saw off the day without further trouble.

Carter was batting on 48 with Heaphy on 41 when the bails were drawn for Day 2.
