Complaint lodged against cantonment thana OC
Staff Reporter :
A serious complaint has been filed against Md. Abdul Alim, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhaka Cantonment Police Station, accusing him of bribery, filing false cases to protect influential individuals, and assisting in land grabbing by defying court orders.
The allegations were submitted in a formal application to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) by the complainant, Md. Ariful Ali, who is demanding an impartial and direct investigation.
Ariful alleges that on October 28, 2024, OC Alim filed a false case against 17 individuals, including him, at the behest of Babul Hossain, who is allegedly a known extortionist and land grabber.
According to Ariful, Babul was previously caught red-handed by the army on October 23 and handed over to the same police station. A case for extortion was also filed against him. However, after securing bail, Babul allegedly colluded with the OC to frame innocent people, said Ariful.
Ariful further claims that businessmen Dilip Agarwal and Aslam Seraniabad, who are said to have close ties with the ruling Awami League, paid hefty bribes to OC Alim to avoid legal consequences.
Similarly, an online trader named Akhtaruzzaman allegedly paid bribes to have his name dropped from a charge sheet. The complainant describes this as a “bribery racket under the shield of political power” and a glaring example of police corruption and abuse of power at the grassroots level.
In an ongoing legal dispute over a flat in the ECB Chattar area, Ariful claims that OC Alim helped a man named Shakil forcibly take possession of the property, despite a court-issued status quo order.
Moreover, it is alleged that constable Saiful extorted money from Ariful’s family, which was later delivered directly to the OC.
Ariful asked pointedly, “When police side with criminals, where should ordinary people go?” He called for an immediate departmental investigation and sought dismissal of the false case filed against him.
Repeated attempts to reach OC Md. Abdul Alim for comments on the allegations were unsuccessful, as he could not be reached for a statement.
