HC orders appoint of administrator to NOVI

Staff Reporter :

The High Court has ordered the appointment of an administrator to the National Organization for the Visually Impaired (NOVI) due to various irregularities and corruption. The Department of Social Services has been asked to finalize the appointment of an administrator to the organization within the next month.

A reliable source said that the High Court has directed the appointment of an administrator to the organization of the blind, established in 1964, due to various types of corruption, including unilateral committee formation, exclusion of members from the voter list, and cancellation of membership. In February 2023, the blind Ayub Ali, Nurul Alam Siddique and their accomplices, who were in the National Organization for the Visually Impaired for a three-year term, had been running the organization by forming committees in an authoritarian manner. Their term was supposed to end in February 2026.

Those concerned said that Nurul Alam and Ayub Ali have been acting as dictators to keep the organization under their control since 2017. To consolidate power, many members were excluded from the voter list and their membership was canceled. Minhaj Uddin, who was the chairman of the organization from 2013 to 2017, has also been canceled. In 2017, the National Blind Organization (renamed National Visually Impaired Organization) had 332 members. Before the 2020-2023 elections, 192 members were removed from that number of members by removing the unwanted blind people. And before the formation of the committee in 2023, 180 more members were removed and 152 blind people were made voters. In the last six years, Ayub Ali Gang has removed 152 blind people from the Blind Organization. Which was extremely inhumane. The High Court has taken note of this matter.

Former president of the organization Minhaj Uddin said that he had made several complaints to the regulatory body, the Department of Social Services, regarding the unilateral formation of the organization’s management committee. But no action was taken. Finally, in September 2024, he canceled the current management committee and sent a letter to the Department of Social Services to appoint an administrator.
