NN Online:
A mild to moderate heatwave is currently sweeping across much of Bangladesh and is expected to persist, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

The heatwave is affecting Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions, as well as parts of Rajshahi and Khulna. Several northern and northeastern districts—including Rangpur, Dinajpur, Kurigram, and Moulvibazar—are also experiencing rising temperatures.

Rajshahi and Chuadanga are currently under a severe heatwave, with Friday’s temperatures soaring to 40 degree Celsius and 41.2 degree Celsius respectively.

Chuadanga recorded the country’s highest temperature today at 42 degree Celsius, while Sylhet saw the lowest at 22 degree Celsius.

As the heat intensifies, daily life in the district has slowed to a near standstill. Residents are largely staying indoors to avoid the harsh conditions, leaving roads nearly deserted. In some areas, the heat has been so severe that asphalt surfaces have reportedly begun to soften or melt.

Meanwhile, street vendors offering seasonal refreshments like sugarcane juice, ice cream, and green coconut water have seen a surge in demand as people seek relief from the sweltering conditions.

In Dhaka, sunset is scheduled for 6:32pm today, with sunrise at 5:18am tomorrow.
