BSF-locals confrontation intensifies over playground ownership in Sylhet
Sylhet Bureau :
Tensions have flared between the Indian Border Security Force and the local Bangladeshi people over the possession of a playground in the Naljuri border area of Gowainghat upazila in Sylhet.
The incident took place around 1 pm today (Thursday). Later, the situation was brought under control with the intervention of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
Sylhet BGB (48 Battalion) Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Nazmul Haque said, “This playground in the Aamsapno area of the border has been in Bangladesh’s possession for a long time. Although this playground was given as part of India under the enclave exchange agreement in 2015, the people of Bangladesh have been using it as unoccupied land until now.”
He said, “During the regular joint border survey by BSF and BGB, the common people did not understand that this playground is part of India. They assumed that India was taking the field, which is why tension spread.
He added that later, with the intervention of the BGB, the situation was brought under control and the joint survey team decided to conduct the survey later.
