BNP Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the thousands of party leaders, activists, and members of the public who turned out to welcome his mother and BNP Chairperson, Begum Khaleda Zia, upon her return from the United Kingdom following four months of medical treatment.
In a statement signed by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the BNP noted that the party chief received a warm and festive reception on Tuesday, with supporters lining the route from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to her residence in Gulshan-2.
“BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman extends his heartfelt greetings and thanks to the general public as well as to party leaders and activists who came to welcome the leader (Khaleda),” the statement read.
Rahman also conveyed his sincere appreciation to the members of the Armed Forces-including the Army, Navy, and Air Force-as well as the police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and Aviation Security personnel, for their vital role in maintaining order and ensuring the smooth passage of Khaleda Zia’s motorcade.
BNP Standing Committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain confirmed that Khaleda Zia returned in stable physical and mental health following her advanced treatment in London. She was accompanied on her return by her two daughters-in-law, including Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of Tarique Rahman.
Thousands of BNP supporters gathered along the airport road from the early morning, waving party and national flags, holding banners and placards, and chanting slogans as they showered Khaleda Zia’s vehicle with flower petals in a show of solidarity and affection.
