BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will return home on Monday after her medical check-up and treatment in London, United Kingdom.
BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain said her physical condition is much better than before and if everything goes well, she will return home on May 5.
Begum Khaleda Zia also former Prime Minister will be accompanied by her two daughters-in-law, Tarique Rahman’s wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and late Arafat Rahman Koko’s wife Syeda Sharmila Rahman.
Party insiders said the BNP Chairperson will return home on a regular flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines under special arrangements.
The former prime minister will not return on air ambulance services but her doctors and staffs in London are working to ensure the highest possible level of care.
Her son BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is overseeing the entire affairs. In 2018, Begum Khaleda Zia was imprisoned in the Old Dhaka Central Jail following her conviction in a graft case.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the then-government granted her release on humanitarian grounds.
After the fall of the fascist Awami League government in a mass uprising led by students and the general public on August 5 last year, she was officially released by a presidential order.Subsequently, the court annulled the verdicts in the two corruption cases that had led to her imprisonment.
On January 8 of this year, the former Prime Minister was flown to London for advanced medical treatment. After 17 consecutive days of treatment at a London clinic, she was transferred to the residence of her son, Tarique Rahman, on January 25.
Begum Khaleda Zia celebrated Eid with her family members. During her imprisonment, the three-time former Prime Minister had spent four Eid festivals either in prison or at the hospital within Bangladesh Medical University.
She is currently receiving continued medical care at Tarique Rahman’s residence, including a comprehensive health check-up.
The BNP Chairperson has long been battling several chronic health conditions, including liver cirrhosis, kidney complications, heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis.
