First Bangladeshi Hajj pilgrim death reported this year

The first death among this year’s Bangladeshi Hajj pilgrims has been reported, according to the latest update from the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Hajj Affairs Portal.

The deceased was identified as Md Khalilur Rahman, a 70-year-old resident of Ramkal Bahadurpur village in Pangsha Upazila, Rajbari. He had traveled to Madinah, Saudi Arabia, aboard Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-3401.

As of now, a total of 13,191 Bangladeshi pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia for Hajj. Among them, 3,738 traveled under the government-managed Hajj package, while 9,453 pilgrims opted for private packages.

These pilgrims arrived via 14 flights operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, nine by Saudia Airlines, and nine by Flynas.

The pre-Hajj flights began on April 29 and will continue until May 31. Return flights are scheduled to begin on June 10 and run through July 10.

This year, a total of 87,100 Bangladeshi pilgrims have registered for Hajj. Of them, 5,200 are traveling under government packages, while 81,900 have chosen private arrangements. So far, 70,814 pilgrims have received their visas, according to the Ministry.

The Hajj is expected to begin on June 5, depending on the sighting of the moon. A total of 70 travel agencies are organizing Hajj flights for Bangladeshi pilgrims this year.
