Smuggled goods worth approximately Tk 1.4 crore were seized in two separate army operations at the Haripur Gasfield Army Camp area in Sylhet.
Acting on secret information, an army team led by Captain Mahmud-bin-Mahfuz Saif of 27 Bir raided a godown on the northern side of Fatepur Bazar in Lama Fatepur village, Gowaighat Upazila, around 8:25 pm on Friday (April 25). During the operation, two individuals were arrested, and a mini truck loaded with various Indian goods illegally brought across the border was seized.
Later, at around 10:10 pm, another raid led by Captain Ifatur Rahman Afrid of 27 Bir was carried out at Lafnaut village in Alirgaon Union of Gowaighat Upazila. Indian cosmetic products smuggled across the border were recovered from another godown.
The arrested individuals were identified as Md. Hanif Ahmed, son of Abdul Latif from Lama Fatepur village, and Juman Ahmed, son of Ahmad Ali from Narayanpur village.
The seized goods included Screen Sign Cream, Skin Bright Cream, Clop G Cream, Gillette blades, and Indian lehengas, with an estimated market value of Tk 1,39,87,440.
The seized items were handed over to the Commanding Officer of the 48 BGB for further legal action.
