Staff Correspondent :
The National Citizens’ Party (NCP) staged a protest march in Narayanganj on Saturday (April 26), demanding the trial of the Awami League over the mass killings during the July Uprising and calling for a ban on its political activities.

The march began at the city’s Central Shaheed Minar and proceeded through the main streets of Narayanganj.

Before the march began, NCP’s Joint Member Secretary and Convener of the Disciplinary Committee, Advocate Abdullah Al-Amin, said, “We gained a new Bangladesh at the cost of the lives of two thousand students and citizens, and thirty to thirty-five thousand injured. We had hoped that in this new Bangladesh, fascists would be brought to justice.

We believed we would never again see fascists strutting around. However, it is with deep regret that we note, even after eight months since the July Revolution, there has been little visible progress in holding the Awami fascists accountable.”

He further said, “We have observed that attempts are being made here in Narayanganj to rehabilitate the Awami League. In various ways, their associates are being placed in different positions.

Those who previously engaged in business and political activities under the shelter of the Osman family in Narayanganj are now presenting themselves as major revolutionaries after the uprising.

Through different business establishments, they are once again trying to re-establish the Osman family and its allies. This is not the Narayanganj we want to see.”

During the protest, speeches were also given by South Region Organizer Shawkat Ali, Joint Chief Coordinator Tuhin Mahmud, Central Committee Member Ahmedur Rahman Tonu, Narayanganj District Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Convener Nirab Raihan, and Member Secretary Javed Alam, among others.
