Bangladesh whitewash Pakistan

Bangladesh completed a rare whitewash against Pakistan in a three-match One Day International series thrashing the visitors by 8 wickets in the third and final ODI in Dhaka on Wednesday. Opener Soumya Sarkar smashed his first ODI century to chase the 251-run target that Pakistan set after they decided to bat first winning toss at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The 22-year left-hand batsman bagged his first ODI century in his tenth match. He played 94 balls to reach his hundred hitting 11 fours and 4 sixes. Earlier, the opener completed his fifty off 63 balls hitting 6 fours and a six. Soumya also piled up 145 runs in the opening partnership with Tamim Iqbal. Tamim then followed his partner and smashed his 29th half-century off 62 balls with 6 fours and a six as well. Tamim was LBW by Junaid Khan in the third delivery of 26th over. The 26-year left-hand batsman scored 64 runs off 76 balls adding 2 more boundaries. Mahamudullah was out scoring only 4 runs. However, Soumya and Mushfiqur Rahim added runs in the third wicket partnership to make the win easy. Mushfiqur scored runs Earlier, Pakistan scored 250 runs all out in 49 overs after they won the toss and chose to bat first looking to avoid a whitewash. Pakistan Skipper Azhar Ali and debutant Sami Aslam put 91 runs on the scoreboard in the opening partnership. Aslam was caught by Mushfiqur Rahim behind the wicket in the last delivery of 18th over bowled by Nasir Hossain. The 19-year left-hand batsman scored 45 runs hitting 7 fours. Three overs later Bangladesh left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny bowled Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafeez who only added 4 runs. Azhar reached his first ODI century off 111 balls hitting 10 fours. In the next over, Shakib bowled the opponent skipper. Azhar and Haris Sohail added 98 runs in the 3rd wicket partnership. Later in the 40th over Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza dismissed Haris Sohail who added 53 runs off 58 balls. Shakib then claimed Mohammad Rizwan (4) while Mashrafe bagged Fawad Alam’s (4) wicket. Rubel Hossain picked up Wahab Riaz (7) and Saad Nasim (22) while Arafat Sunny claimed Junaid Khan’ (4) wickets. Pakistan lost their last 8 wickets in 47 runs. Shakib finished his 10 overs for 35 runs with 2 wickets. Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza, pacer Rubel Hossain and spinner Arafat Sunny also picked up 2 wickets each for 44, 43 and 43 runs respectively. Earlier, Bangladesh won the first ODI by 79 runs while the second by 7 wickets.
