Unique gold smuggling attempt foiled at osmani airport — One in custody

A gold consignment brought from Dubai in a unique way wrapped in cloth has been seized at Sylhet Osmani Airport and one person has been arrested. The amount of gold is about one kilogram, and it was seized after a search.
Customs and intelligence members searched a passenger of flight BG 248 from Dubai at Sylhet Osmani International Airport on Friday (April 25) morning and seized the gold consignment.
When the flight landed at around 9:30 am, a passenger inside the plane was found suspicious and was searched. Later, the gold was found hidden in a unique way wrapped in cloth. He was arrested immediately.
The name of the arrested person is Alim Uddin. He is the son of Shahab Uddin of Gahara village in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet.
Assistant Commissioner Md. Firoz Hossain Biswas confirmed the matter and said that it is believed that there is approximately one kilogram of gold in the cloth. Its market value is estimated to be over one crore.
Earlier, on October 27, 2022, in the same manner, at 10:30 am on a Biman flight (BG-228) departing from Abu Dhabi, customs officials at Osmani International Airport seized a consignment of gold from the jacket of a passenger.
