BNP seeks no revenge, but justice: Tarique

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman affirmed on Wednesday that his party seeks no revenge through retaliation, but justice through the realization of its 31-point reform agenda, designed to serve the public interest.
“Over the past 15-16 years since the events of 1/11, you have suffered immense persecution. You’ve faced false charges, endured harassment at the hands of the police, and been victimized by tyrants and their collaborators. But we are not looking to repay that cruelty with more of the same,” Tarique said in a virtual speech at four separate workshops.
He emphasized that the BNP’s path to justice lies in fulfilling its 31-point reform agenda, which, he stated, would be the party’s response to the injustices inflicted on its members.
“We aim to transform the suffering of the past into change for the future – not through oppression, but by executing our 31-point reform plan,” he said.
Tarique noted that this reform initiative reflects a personal mission as well, saying, “I want to seek justice – not just for the injustices I’ve faced, or the time I’ve spent in prison, or the suffering of my mother, or the tragic loss of my brother – but through the realization of these 31 points that prioritize national welfare.”
The workshops, titled ’31-Point State Structure Reform Proposal and Public Engagement’, were held in Rangpur City, Rangpur and Nilphamari districts, and Saidpur upazila, under the organization of the BNP Training Affairs Committee.
He called on party members to promote the reform proposals across the nation, urging them to engage citizens from all backgrounds and political beliefs in building widespread public backing for the agenda.
“We spent the day discussing the nation’s core issues and the wellbeing of our people. To truly implement our plans and protect national interests, these 31 points must become a reality,” Tarique said.
He stressed that public support is the greatest asset for any political movement. “When we witness growing crowds in our rallies and marches, it fills us with hope. As political activists, our ultimate goal is always to win the trust and votes of the people.”
Tarique also warned about ongoing disinformation campaigns aimed at tarnishing BNP’s image through both social media and mainstream platforms. He noted that he had cautioned party activists about this several months ago.
“Our once-invisible adversaries are becoming clearer, and more are joining them. The stronger our connection with the people and the clearer our communication of goals, the better equipped we’ll be to face both seen and unseen opponents. This is a collective duty we all must fulfill,” he said.
Reflecting on the legacies of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and current Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Tarique highlighted their contributions in areas such as education, health, transportation, and agriculture, emphasizing their efforts to boost employment and food production.
