DMP urges citizens to avoid blocking roads
Staff Reporter :
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a special appeal to the public, urging all individuals and groups to refrain from blocking roads and disrupting vehicular movement.
The statement, released Wednesday afternoon, highlights increasing instances of road blockades organized by various groups under the guise of protests and demands. According to the DMP, these spontaneous actions have been paralyzing traffic in key parts of Dhaka, leading to severe inconvenience for thousands of commuters.
“Such road obstructions are making it extremely difficult for students, office workers, outbound travelers, and even emergency services to reach their destinations on time,” the DMP said in its statement.
Despite the consistent efforts of the DMP Traffic Division to manage the flow of vehicles in the bustling city, the police authority noted that sudden and unjustified road closures are undermining traffic operations and causing widespread public suffering.
“In the greater interest of the citizens and to maintain a smooth and safe traffic system, we earnestly request all concerned parties to avoid obstructing roads without a justified cause,” the DMP added.
The DMP’s statement comes at a time when Dhaka’s roads are already under strain due to ongoing construction, increased seasonal travel, and the summer heat, further aggravating the plight of commuters.
Authorities warned that while the right to peaceful assembly and protest is respected, public safety and the uninterrupted operation of essential services must not be compromised.
The DMP also emphasized that legal action may be taken if such disruptions continue to affect public life.
