BNP’s Mamun fights for people’s rights
Staff Reporter :
Md Mamun, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for Bangshal Police Station, has earned recognition among party activists and supporters for his long-standing commitment to grassroots political organizing and his efforts to uphold the ideals of late President Ziaur Rahman.
Despite facing repeated arrests and alleged political harassment under successive governments, Mamun continued his activism, even after being elected as councillor for Ward No. 33 of Dhaka South City Corporation—a position he claims he was denied the opportunity to assume due to government interference.
Mamun is known for leading from the front during street movements and for working to strengthen every ward and unit committee under his jurisdiction. Party insiders say he remains committed to ensuring the presence of BNP in every neighborhood, aligning closely with senior leaders of Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP and operating under the guidance of Engineer Ishraq Hossain and other top party figures.
He has also taken a strong stance against criminal activities in the area, including drug dealing, land grabbing, and extortion. Claiming support from both law enforcement and local residents, Mamun says his goal is to transform Bangshal into a “model police station” area—free from violence, discrimination, and political oppression.
Locals describe him as accessible and responsive, often arriving in person to resolve community issues. “He always answers the call when there’s a problem,” said one resident.
Mamun has pledged to continue his efforts to build a safer and more unified Bangshal, rooted in the founding ideals of the BNP and in service of what he calls “the people’s mandate.”
