Meghna Bridge jammed for 3 hours following truck overturn

Traffic on the Dhaka-bound lane of the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway was severely disrupted for nearly three hours on Friday morning after a truck overturned on the Meghna Bridge in Munshiganj’s Gajaria Upazila.
The truck, loaded with iron rods, lost a wheel and flipped over around 6am, scattering its cargo across the road, said Shawkat Hossain, chief of the Bhoberchar Highway Police Outpost.
Although traffic heading towards Cumilla remained unaffected, Dhaka-bound vehicles were caught in a jam stretching nearly 8 kilometers by 8am.
“We got stuck in traffic right after crossing Bhoberchar Bus Stand,” said Amir Ali, a bus driver on his way to Dhaka. Sirajul Islam, a pickup driver also bound for Dhaka, said, “I heard a truck overturned on the Meghna Bridge. I’ve been in the same spot for over an hour and a half.”
The highway police removed the truck around 9am. “The road has been cleared and traffic is gradually returning to normal,” Shawkat added.
