Genocide Case: Probe against Hasina at final stage
Staff Reporter :
Gazi Monowar Hossain Tamim, prosecutor at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), has said that the investigation into the genocide case against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is nearing its final stage.
He made this statement to journalists on Wednesday afternoon following a hearing at the International Crimes Tribunal.
Gazi Monowar Hossain Tamim stated, “The cases filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, other Awami League leaders, and top officials of the law enforcement agencies are all individual-centric cases in the tribunal.
The accused are being investigated based on specific allegations and their roles in committing the crimes, which in legal terms fall under ‘Superior Command Responsibility.”
He added that investigations are ongoing for several cases based on incidents from various locations during the July-August events, notably including Ashulia, Rampura, and Chankharpul.
“In the superior command responsibility cases, many of those who are arrested or absconding have already been linked to location-based cases. We are prioritizing the cases involving the most brutality,” the prosecutor said.
As a result, some other investigations are proceeding a bit slowly. However, that does not mean they’ve stopped. Individual investigation officers have been assigned to each case, and they are conducting separate investigations,” he explained.
On the special focus on the case against Sheikh Hasina, he said, “Sheikh Hasina is at the center of all the crimes. All acts were committed under her direction. Once the investigation against her is finalized, it will be much easier to advance the cases against her associates.
For that reason, the other cases will be linked with hers, which will streamline the entire investigation process.”
