Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus reaches in Bangkok on Thursday to participate in the sixth Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) summit, scheduled to take place from April 2-4.
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying the chief adviser and his entourage landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport at approximately 12pm local time. Thai Minister in Attendance, Jiraporn Shinduprai, welcomed Professor Yunus at the airport.
During his visit, the chief adviser will address the BIMSTEC summit and engage in bilateral discussions with leaders from member states. A key meeting is scheduled with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, where they are expected to discuss matters of mutual interest.
Additionally, Professor Yunus will witness the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) during the summit, further strengthening regional cooperation. The chairmanship of BIMSTEC will also officially be handed over to Bangladesh on Thursday, marking a significant milestone for the country in regional diplomacy.
The BIMSTEC summit is focused on seven key pillars of regional cooperation: Trade, Investment and Development; Environment and Climate Change; Security; Agriculture and Food Security; People-to-People Contact; Science, Technology, and Innovation; and Connectivity.
Professor Yunus is expected to return to Bangladesh on Friday night after concluding his engagements at the summit.
