Chief Adviser, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, on Monday urged police personnel to remain vigilant against the defeated forces of the July uprising, who may attempt to intensify efforts to destabilise the country as the election approaches.

The Chief Adviser also instructed the police to enhance their efforts in maintaining law and order, ensuring that every citizen, including minority communities, feels safe and secure.

Home Adviser, Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Home Secretary Nasimul Gani, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam also addressed the event.

Among the field-level officials, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Chattogram Range Police, Ahsan Habib Palash, and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Rajshahi, Farzana Islam, also spoke.

Approximately 127 SPs and senior officers attended the special meeting.

“Police must act strictly within the framework of existing laws to uphold law and order in the country,” Dr Yunus stated while addressing the senior police officers at his office.

The Chief Adviser emphasised that any future elected government must be one that upholds the rule of law, and therefore, the police must carry out their duties with integrity and professionalism.

Dr Yunus also highlighted the importance of utilising technology to streamline law enforcement operations.

He stressed the necessity of introducing an online case filing system to improve efficiency.

Additionally, he underscored the need to rank the activities of police superintendents to encourage healthy competition at the field level.

“Police should play a crucial role in harnessing the momentum created by the student-led uprising to build a New Bangladesh,” he stated.

He further remarked that Bangladesh is a country of immense potential, and the opportunities that have arisen must be fully utilised.

“Bangladesh has the potential to join the ranks of the world’s leading nations. We must capitalise on this opportunity,” the Chief Adviser concluded.
