BGB seizes smuggled goods worth over 15cr in Mymensingh

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) stationed at the Mymensingh and Sherpur districts along the Bangladesh-India border has seized smuggled goods worth a staggering 15 Crore 29 Lakh 96 Thousand Taka over the last two and a half months. The operation targeted Indian contraband goods, vehicles, and narcotics.
According to a press release sent by the commanding officer of Mymensingh Battalion (39 BGB), Mohammad Sanbir Hasan Majumder, the operation, conducted in the Mymensingh and Sherpur border areas, resulted in the confiscation of various illicit items, including a large quantity of food products, clothing, and drugs. The smuggled goods included 36,044 kg of cumin, 33,303 kg of sugar, 1,230 saris, 1,275 blankets, 8,666 pairs of sunglasses, 1,480 vests, 180,370 Gillette razor blades, 70 kg of tobacco, 49,370 types of medicine, 164 Oval papers, 19,380 firecrackers, 14 wooden safes, 14 kg of fruits, 985 kg of raisins, 12 lehengas, 3,039 packs of chocolates and biscuits, 6,975 betel nuts, 135 bottles of olive oil, 33 kg of tamarind, 2 sweaters, 6 pairs of socks, 7 thamis, 1 fancy gown, 1 mobile phone, 50 tubes, and 3 SIM cards. Additionally, there were 643 cosmetic items, 6,104 pieces of soap, and 6,116 packets of Carvery biscuits.
Moreover, the seized items also included 98 Indian cows and goats, 2,190 kg of slaughtered cow meat, 39 vehicles, 1,181 bottles of foreign liquor, 51 bottles of Fencidil, 12 bottles of beer, 10 pieces of yaba pills, and 2 liters of domestic alcohol.
Throughout the operation, 12 suspects were apprehended, but there were no casualties or injuries reported due to the operation, and there was no confrontation with the Indian Border Security Force (BSF).
Colonel Sanbir Hasan Majumder stated that the BGB remains vigilant and active in securing the international border of Mymensingh and Sherpur districts. They continue to uphold their duties, especially in preventing illegal activities such as smuggling and infiltration. He emphasized that strict measures will remain in place, and the BGB will continue its efforts to curb such illegal activities in the future.
This operation reflects the BGB’s relentless commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders and fighting illegal cross-border trade.
