Barishal University’s website remains ineffective even after 14yrs

The website of Barishal University (BU) has remained virtually non-functional, failing to provide essential information for students, teachers, and staff. Over the past 14 years, no significant improvements have been made, making access to necessary details difficult even through traditional.
Our correspondent talked to 20 students from different departments. They said the university’s various notices, examination routines, results, admission information, and other important information are not available on the website. Even information regarding student profiles or academic records is missing. Besides, there is a complaint that those who are abroad for higher education from the university are not able to get any updated information from the website. Students said that it is better to get everything updated on the website; otherwise, it is time-consuming and creates other complications.
Bayezid Hossain, a student of the Bangla department, said, “In other universities, the students get the necessary information, including the results from the website. But we still have to use analogue to get the necessary information. Even then, it is full of mistakes. Ensuring information to students with technological advancement is the need of the hour.”
Meanwhile, an administrative officer of the university said that despite having an official website, notices were given to various departments of the university through letters.
Students and concerned are expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of necessary information. Students are struggling to get necessary information due to a lack of regular updates on the website, which is one of the means of knowing the information of about 10,000 students. There is irony in the work of officials. Despite the popularity of social media, the university does not have its own introductory Facebook page.
Apart from this, the students go directly to the bank to fill out the admission and examination forms of the university students and stand in the queue to deposit money, which is indecent. Although there is an official website of the university, the academic results of the students are not published there. In the digital age, where everything is supposed to be on the website, everything is being done through letters. The situation seems to be an “analogue” website in the digital age.
Director of the University’s Networking and Information Technology (IT) office. Md Manzoor Ahmed said, “When any notice or letter is sent to us from the registrar’s office or any department, we upload it on the website. But to do this, we must require an application or approval letter from the authority. If the approval letter is not received, we do not upload the notice. We upload only those notices, which we are instructed to upload. However, not all notices are sent to us. Only important notices are sent to us, which are readily available to students and all concerned.”
When asked about the profile of students on the website, he said, “Students’ profile is basically their profile in the examination software. These profiles are stored with the exam controller. It usually contains education-related information. Generally, our university does not have separate storage of student profiles.”
University Registrar Md Monirul Islam said that our website will be updated. The authorities will soon improve the website so that all the information and desired results of the university can be obtained.
