Rabby powers Abahani to post massive win in DPL Cricket

A five-wicket haul by Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby powered Dhaka Abahani Limited to earn a massive eight-wicket victory over Partex Sporting Club in their fourth match of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Wednesday.

Rabby captured five wickets instead of 18 runs. Rabby was adjudged the Man of the Match for his superb bowling performance.

Chasing Partex’s fragile total of 100 off 33.1 overs, Abahani coasted home making 101 for the loss of two wickets when they had 35.3 overs to spare.

Abahani lost their early two wickets for 21 runs.
Opener Parvez Hossain Emon and second-down Mosaddek Hossain played the key role to reach the victory target scoring 80 runs for the unbroken third wicket partnership.
Emon remained unbeaten with 55 runs. His 50-ball innings was studded with three sixes and six fours.
Mosaddek Hossain remained unbeaten with 37 runs. He hit three fours and two sixes in his 27-ball knock. Mosaddek Hossain and Rakibul Hasan of Dhaka Abahani Limited grabbed a pair of wickets each instead of seven and 17 runs respectively. Anamul Haque took one wicket for 14 runs.

Joyraj Sheikh was the only batter of Partex who could make a notable score. He notched up 36 from 59 deliveries featuring four fours and a sixer.

Meanwhile, dashing opener Tamim Iqbal’s unbeaten ton guided Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited to secure a resounding nine-wicket win over Brothers Union Limited at the BKSP Ground-3 in Savar on the same day. Tamim remained unbeaten with 105 runs. His 96-ball splendid innings was belted with four sixes and nine fours. Tamim was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Sent into bat first, Brothers Union Limited made 187 off 48.7 overs. In reply, Mohammedan sailed home scoring 191 for the loss of one wicket remaining with 103 balls.

Opener Mehidy Hasan Miraz was dismissed for two runs when Mohammedan’s score was just four.
Then, opener Tamim Iqbal and Mahidul Islam Ankon contributed together 187 runs for the unbroken second wicket partnership to anchor the victory target. Ankon remained unbeaten with 75 runs. His 96-ball innings had six fours and three sixes.

Earlier, Imtiaz Hossain and Aich Mollah of Brothers Union could make notable scorers against the tight, controlled and superb bowling attack of Mohammedan.

Imtiaz made 43 from 59 deliveries featuring seven fours. Mollah scored 32 from 55 balls with four fours.

Taijul Islam captured four wickets in the space of 31 runs, while Abu Hider claimed three wickets in lieu of 24 runs and Miraz bagged two wickets instead of 30 runs. Nasum Ahmed took one wicket for 35 runs.

In the day’s other match, Legends of Rupganj posted a facile eight-wicket victory over Prime Bank Cricket Club at the BKSP Ground-4 in Savar.

Trailing Prime Bank’s modest total of 152 off 29.5 overs, Legends of Rupganj overhauled the winning target in just 23.2 overs making 154 for the loss of two wickets.

Tanzid Hasan and Somya Sarkar played the key role to reach the winning spot.

Tanzid Hasan cracked 68 from 49 deliveries including five sixes and seven fours, while Soumya Sarkar remained unbeaten with 50 runs. Soumya hit five fours and two sixes in his 40-ball innings.

Opener Mohammad Naim of Prime Bank restored some parity for his team. He notched up a marvelous 81. His 83-ball innings was decorated with five sixes and four fours.

Saif Hassan plucked four wickets at the cost of 37 runs. Saif Hassan was adjudged the Man of the Match. Tanzim Hasan picked up three wickets instead of 30 runs.

Besides, Tanvir Islam, Mahedi Hasan and Shoriful Islam took one wicket apice.
