Unabated border killing: Another Bangladeshi killed in Panchagarh
Staff Reporter :
Despite commitments to reduce border killings to zero, the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) continues to take the lives of Bangladeshi nationals, with the latest incident occurred at the Panchagarh border.
A Bangladeshi youth, Al-Amin (36), was shot dead by BSF at the Suidanga border, opposite India’s Khalpara, near the Bhitargarh border in Sadar Upazila of Panchagarh district.
Al-Amin, a resident of Jinnatpara village under Haribhasa union, had reportedly been missing for the last three days before being found killed.
According to sources from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local residents, a BSF patrol team from the Bhatpara camp in India spotted a group of 10-15 people, including Al-Amin, near the border early Friday morning.
The BSF opened fire, causing the group to scatter. However, Al-Amin was shot, and the BSF took his body into India.
Upon learning of the incident, Lieutenant Colonel Sheikh Md Badruddoza, the commanding officer of the 56th BGB Battalion, held a flag meeting with the 46th BSF Battalion near border pillar 744/7-S, demanding the immediate return of Al-Amin’s body.
This is not an isolated incident. Earlier this month, another Bangladeshi national was shot and killed by BSF at the Brahmanbaria border, further escalating concerns over border security and violations of human rights.
The victim Md. Al-Amin was the son of Sultan Mia, from Dakshin Putia village in Bayek union in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria.
Following the repeated killings, BGB has issued a stern warning, stating that they will take strict measures if BSF continues to kill Bangladeshi citizens.
However, despite these warnings, border killings have persisted, raising serious concerns about the safety of Bangladeshi nationals along the frontier.
These incidents come at a time when Bangladesh-India relations remain tense under the current interim government.
With ongoing diplomatic tensions and unresolved border issues, the continuous loss of Bangladeshi lives at the border further strains bilateral ties.
Despite repeated discussions and agreements between the two nations, the failure to stop border killings raises questions about India’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Bangladeshi civilians.
As families continue to lose their loved ones, the people of Bangladesh demand immediate and concrete actions to end these tragedies.
