Case filed against Rakhal Raha for religious offense

Staff Reporter :

A case has been filed against Rakhal Raha, also known as Sajjadur Rahman, a member of the Textbook Correction and Revision Committee of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), under the Cyber Security Act for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

A person named Sajjad Hossain filed a case in the Cyber Tribunal Court of Dhaka before Judge Noor Alam on Monday (March 3).

The court accepted his statement and instructed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the matter and submit a report. Sajjad Hossain’s lawyer, Md. Jewel, confirmed this.

The complaint alleges that on February 17, Rakhal Raha (Sajjadur Rahman) posted a status on his Facebook account with the intention of defaming Islam, which was later published in various media outlets. Sajjad Hossain became aware of the post through various channels.

On February 25, he went to the Motijheel Police Station to file a case, but the police advised him to approach the court instead. Following that advice, Sajjad Hossain filed the case in court on Monday.

In his petition, Sajjad Hossain has requested that the court take the complaint into account, issue an arrest warrant against the accused, summon witnesses, and ensure justice for the followers of Islam.
