Nation embraces spiritual wisdom as Ramadan begins

Staff Reporter :
The holy month of Ramadan starts today in Bangladesh following the sighting of the crescent moon on Saturday.
The announcement was made by the National Moon Sighting Committee, chaired by Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain, at the Islamic Foundation in Dhaka.
This marks the beginning of the sacred month, during which Muslims across the country will observe fasting, prayers, and spiritual reflection.
In addition to fasting from dawn to dusk, worshippers will gather in mosques for Taraweeh prayers and increased recitation of the Quran.
On the eve of Ramadan, Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus extended his warm greetings to the people of Bangladesh and Muslims worldwide.
In a message, he stated, “On the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, I extend my heartfelt greetings to my fellow countrymen and the Muslim Ummah.”
He underscored the importance of self-restraint, highlighting that fasting purifies the soul and strengthens one’s connection with Almighty Allah.
“It is a wonderful opportunity to attain the blessings, closeness, and forgiveness of Almighty Allah,” Dr Yunus remarked, emphasising that fasting fosters mutual sympathy, harmony, and brotherhood between the rich and the poor.
Urging people to embrace the spirit of Ramadan, he called upon everyone to refrain from indulgence, jealousy, hatred, disorder, and conflict.
He encouraged the practice of patience, self-discipline, and restraint in all aspects of life to uphold the sanctity of the holy month.
In addition to fasting, Dr Yunus urged Muslims to engage in increased recitation of the Quran and dedicate themselves to prayer and worship throughout Ramadan.
The government has assured that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the peaceful and smooth observance of the holy month.
Furthermore, the holy night of Shab-e-Qadr will be observed on the night of Thursday, 27th March.
This revered occasion, also known as the Night of Power, holds profound spiritual significance for Muslims, as it is believed to be the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
On this night, believers dedicate themselves to intense prayer and supplication, seeking divine mercy and blessings.
