Enforced Disappearances: Mayer Dak accuses 60 officials of rights violations

Staff Reporter :

The families of victims of enforced disappearances, represented by the organisation Mayer Dak, have submitted a formal complaint to the Chief Prosecutor’s Office at the International Crimes Tribunal.

In their complaint, Mayer Dak has listed 100 victims of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings. The complaint accuses over sixty members of law enforcement agencies and politicians from the Awami League regime of involvement in these incidents, said Advocate Shishir Monir, a coordinator of Mayer Dak, while speaking to reporters on Tuesday.

Among the 60 accused are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Major General (Retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary, former Director of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) Major General (Relieved) Ziaul Ahsan, and former Chief of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (CTTC) Monirul Islam.

Advocate Sanjida Islam Tuli, also a coordinator of Mayer Dak, was present alongside several family members of the victims.

Advocate Shishir Monir further stated that out of the 100 victims, only five were found in Aynaghar, a facility allegedly used for enforced disappearances under the Hasina regime.

“We have received 100 complaints on behalf of Mayer Dak today (Tuesday), accusing sixty individuals. We will conduct a thorough examination of the complaints and take further action accordingly,” said ICT Prosecutor Gazi Monowar Hossain Tamim.
