Filmmaker Zahidur Rahim Anjan no more

National Film Award-winning filmmaker Zahidur Rahim Anjan, renowned for movie titled ‘Meghmallar’, is no more.
Director Amitabh Reza Chowdhury informed that Anjan passed away last night while receiving treatment in Bengaluru, India. He was 60.
Anjan had reportedly been suffering from liver complications for a long time so he had been receiving treatment at a hospital in Bengaluru for several months. Last week, his doctors decided to proceed with a liver transplant.
However, after the surgery, the late director’s condition deteriorated, and he was placed on life support. He passed away while still under medical care.
Anjan made his directorial debut with ‘Meghmallar’, a film adapted from the short story ‘Raincoat’ by esteemed writer Akhtaruzzaman Elias.
Released in December 2014, the film earned him the National Film Award for Best Director and Best Dialogue Writer.
His latest film, ‘Chander Amabasya’, was produced with government funding and is awaiting release. The poster of the movie has already been released. OTT platform, Chorki, has taken responsibility for the release of the movie. The movie will be released in theatres this year. Then it will be released on Chorki.
Zahidur Rahim Anjan holds a degree in film from Pune Film Institute, India.
He taught film-making and film criticism at the Department of Film and Media Studies at Stamford University, Bangladesh.
He is the founding member of Bangladesh Short Film Forum.
Anjan served as the president of Bangladesh Short Film Forum from 2004 to 2006.
