HC rules on unused data carryover for mobile users
Staff Reporter :
The High Court has issued a rule asking why unused data, minutes, and SMS of mobile internet users should not be carried over into the next package.
The rule was issued following a preliminary hearing of a writ petition on Sunday (16 February) by the High Court bench, comprising Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Sikdar Mahmudur Razi.
Previously, on 13 January, legal notices were sent to the government and telecom companies requesting that the remaining internet data, minutes, and SMS be included in the next package after the expiration of the current one.
The notices were issued by Supreme Court lawyer Md. Mizanur Rahman to the Secretary of Posts and Telecommunications, the Chairman of BTRC, and the CEOs of Grameenphone, Robi Axiata Limited, Banglalink Limited, and Teletalk Bangladesh Limited.
At present, mobile internet users of Grameenphone, Robi, Banglalink, and Teletalk lose access to unused data once the validity of their package expires.
If users do not purchase a new data package before the current one expires, any remaining data is forfeited.
