Kulaura 38m taka project: Only 30 pc completed in 4 and half years!

The construction of ‘Rajapur Bridge’ on the Kulaura-Prithimpasha-Hazipur-Sharifpur road over the Manu River at Kulaura in Moulvibazar was completed about three years and six months ago. But as the work of connecting road on both sides of the bridge has not been completed, the traffic through this bridge has not started yet. However, local people filled both sides of the bridge with sand.
By using the approach road, they are moving without difficulty. Only 30 percent work has been done so far in about 4 and half years of this project. Meanwhile, due to the blockage of sand transport for Rajapur Bridge link road and lack of money for land acquisition, the local people in Chatlapur area of Sharifpur Union.
Delay in starting work due to blockage. As a result of the authorities concerned not taking any measures to implement such a big development work of the government, the work of the connecting road of this bridge is being prolonged. Meanwhile, on December 30, the local filed a written complaint against the Deputy Commissioner alleging slowness in the work of the Rajapur Bridge link road.
Prithimpasha, Hajipur and Sharifpur union people According to sources from the Directorate of Sewage, Moulvibazar and local residents, in view of the long-standing demands of the people of Prithimpasha, Hajipur and Sharifpur Unions in the southern part of the upazila, 99 crores 17 lakhs 38 crores were spent on the construction of Rajapur bridge and connecting road in 2018.

In the project, the government approved the construction project of 2 hundred 32.94 meters PC girder bridge, 7.5 kilometers connecting road and land acquisition on the 14th kilometer of Kulaura-Prithimpasha-Hazipur-Sharifpur road. The bridge construction work was completed in June 2021 at a cost of Rs. In 2020, a contractor company named ‘Ms Md Jamil Iqbal’ got the job of constructing 7 and a half kilometers connecting road on both sides of the bridge at a cost of about 38 crore taka. The work is scheduled to be completed by April 2022
Was but due to various complications in land acquisition, later the work period was extended till June 2025 in two phases. At present, about a hundred people in Manoharpur Mauza of Sharifpur Union have not received any money for the acquisition of land for the construction of the Rajapur-Chatlapur link road. For which the 8th ward of Sharifpur Union Land owners led by member Lal Mia are said to be obstructing the work due to non-availability of money.
On the other hand, Manu River submitted a written complaint to the Sylhet Divisional Commissioner on December 3, alleging obstruction in the transport of sand for various government development works including the link road.
Deepak Dey, former lessee of sand extraction from Meanwhile, Md. Jamil Iqbal, the contractor for the work of the link road, gave another separate complaint to the Deputy Commissioner.
In a separate complaint, it is mentioned that at 1430 Bangla Sun, 2023 from the office of the District Commissioner for extracting sand from the Kulaura Manu River.

Due to delay in obtaining approval for transportation of sand to the project area and due to land acquisition complications in the Rajapur-Chatlapur link road of the project area, the contractor company could not take the excavated sand to the government project area on time at 1430 Bangla Sun.
After the scheduled time of sand mining, a sand mining lease was given to a contractor named Khaled Ahmed for the next year. At present, as the acquisition work has been completed at most of the link roads and the approval from the Water Development Board has been obtained, the lifted and sold sand is used for government development work.

Lal Mia, a member of Ward No. 8 of Sharifpur Union Parishad, said that about a hundred people are still without land in Manoharpur Mauza of the union.

Md Kayshar Hamid, Executive Engineer of Roads and Public Ways Department Moulvibazar District Office, said that the work of Rajapur Bridge was completed about three and a half years ago. The beneficiaries are not getting the money for the acquisition, which is causing the delay in the work. The matter has been reported to the District Commissioner’s office.
Upazila Nirbahi officer Mohiuddin said that the news of local people being tied up in connection road work is from the Deputy Commissioner.
