Sufferings curbed as ticket counter-based bus service launches in Dhaka

The launch of a ticket counter-based bus service in Dhaka on Thursday has brought significant relief to commuters by improving traffic order and ensuring safer public transportation. The initiative, aimed at reducing passenger hassle and road congestion, has been widely welcomed.

A ticket counter-based bus service was launched in Dhaka on Thursday to enhance traffic discipline and improve passenger safety. This initiative aims to reduce haphazard boarding and competition among buses, which often leads to accidents and congestion.

According to Md Saiful Alam, General Secretary of the Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association, a fleet of 2,610 pink buses, operated by 21 different transport companies, has started running under this new system. These buses will primarily serve routes from Abdullahpur to various destinations within the capital.

Commuters have expressed relief and satisfaction, as the new system eliminates reckless street-side passenger pickups, making travel safer and more organised.

Md Saiful Alam stated, “this initiative will significantly improve traffic order by ensuring that buses stop only at designated counters.

It will also enhance passenger safety by preventing overcrowding and reducing the risk of accidents.”

Passengers praised the move, highlighting how fixed stops and structured ticketing have made commuting more convenient and efficient. Transport authorities have assured strict monitoring to ensure the proper implementation of the system. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) will work jointly to oversee operations and prevent rule violations.

Passengers and transport experts believe that if properly maintained, the ticket counter system could be a turning point in Dhaka’s public transport management.
