Hannan Sarkar submits resignation from Selector post

Selector Abdul Hannan Sarkar submitted his resignation letter to BCB’s Head of Cricket Operations Committee Najmul Abedin Fahim on Saturday night. Hannan Sarkar acknowledged he is not interested to work as selector of BCB. He is interested to work as coach.

Hannan Sarkar submitted his resignation during the Dutch- Bangla Bank Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket. Hannan Sarkar will act until February 28. After that he will be no more in his post as a selector of BCB. Hannan Sarkar was appointed as the selector and assisted Chief Selector of Bangladesh Cricket team from February 12 of 2024.

He submitted his resignation letter after acting just one year. Hannan Sarkar contracted with BCB from 2024 to 2026. But he will not retain his tenure. Earlier, former cricketer Hannan Sarkar was the selector of Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team. During his tenure, Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team clinched the title of ICC Under-19 World Cup Cricket title.

Hannan Sarkar said to a local website, ” I want to build my career as a coach. So, I am not interested to act as Selector of Bangladesh National Cricket team. If the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) proposes me to act in coaching panel I shall take the offer.”

The 42-year old former opener played 17 Test matches, 20 One Day International (ODI) matches. Hannan Sarkar scored 662 runs in his Test career. His highest score was 76. He hit five half-centuries in his Test career.

Hannan Sarkar scored 383 runs in his ODI career. His highest score was 61. He hit three half-centuries in his ODI career.
