We congratulate Donald Trump on his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States on Monday. Through this, the journey of his second term began. After winning the 2016 election and serving one term, he was defeated by Democrat Joe Biden in the 2020 election. He returned to White House again after winning the 2024 election.

Shortly after taking the oath of office, President Trump announced several important decisions. Notable among them are America’s withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement, the pardoning of 1,500 supporters accused of rioting on Capitol Hill, and the withdrawal from the World Health Organization.

In addition, Trump wants to change the constitutionally recognized law of obtaining US citizenship by being born in the United States. He has signed an administrative order in this regard, giving a strong message to illegal immigrants residing in the country.

As he was elected for the second term as president, the Muslim, black and Mexican immigrant communities living in the United States are naturally worried. At least 30 lakh Bangladeshis now live in the United States legally or illegally.

The illegally living Bangladeshis are worried about their future in the country. We hope President Trump will realize the fact that the United States is practically a nation of immigrants and their contributions have made the country what it is today, and will ensure the safety of people of all races and religions.

The impact of US policy on the world is well known. How will be the relationship of the United States with the outside world under the leadership of Trump is now a big question. But experience shows that overnight major changes in US foreign policy are unlikely. The foreign policy of the country depends on the role of the President as well as the State Department, the Pentagon, the National Security Council, the Homeland Security Council, and above all the Congress. It is a mixed process.

We are especially looking forward to see the direction of Bangladesh’s relationship with the United States. We hope our government will properly engage with its US counterpart to ensure that our interests are protected. As the president of the most powerful country in the world, we hope that Donald Trump will try to build good relations with Bangladesh along with the rest of the world.
