Retired Bangladesh Bank deputy governor SK Sur Chowdhury has been arrested and sent to jail in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
On Tuesday, an enforcement team of the ACC arrested him from city’s Segunbagicha area on charges of amassing wealth beyond his known sources of income and concealing information.
The other accused are SK Sur’s wife Suporna Sur Chowdhury and daughter Nandita Sur Chowdhury.
ACC deputy director (public relations) Md Akhtarul Islam confirmed the matter to the media saying that the case was filed on December 23, 2024, in the light of the preliminary investigation report.
SK Sur was accused of helping launder money while working at the central bank.
During his tenure in BB, Sur was involved in and benefitted from a loan scam by former NRB Global Bank managing director PK Halder, according to some statements.
