Entertainment Report :

Singer Farzana Wahid Shayan has long been a voice of
defiance and strength, known for never backing down
in the face of injustice.
From opposing the violence in Palestine to supporting
student protests against inequality, Shayan channels her activism through music.
Shayan’s new song titled ‘Etai Amar Rajneeti’ (This is My Politics), is no exception. With this release, she once again turns the spotlight on Bangladesh’s political landscape offering a powerful commentary on the challenges of speaking out in a society where dissent is often met with suspicion.
Around two and a half years ago, Shayan first performed the song informally, strumming her guitar in a casual setting and sharing the performance on Facebook.
Last Friday, she officially launched the song with music arranged by Subhadeep Majumdar.
The lyric video was penned by Hasan Mahmud Sunny, adding a visual layer to Shayan’s powerful words.
‘Etai Amar Rajneeti’ is a song deeply rooted in the political reality of the country. In the lyrics, Shayan highlights how questioning authority or raising issues often leads to suspicion about one’s political allegiance.
In an atmosphere where speaking up for ordinary citizens feels like a taboo, Shayan’s message states she doesn’t belong to any political party. She walks her own path. This is her political philosophy, expressed fearlessly through her music.
Last year, on August 26, the anniversary of the Phulbari Tragedy, Shayan released a studio version of the song on Facebook.
In her post, she wrote, “As an artiste, as a citizen of this country, or even as a living being in this universe, in every sense, I have my own politics. My politics is about keeping a distance from power. From what I’ve witnessed so far in this life, the very nature of power is to centralise and gradually turn oppressive. Instead of serving the people, it begins to exploit them. The true essence of my artistry and citizenship lies in remaining vigilant against power. Deviating from that is, to me, self-destruction.”
